Why Do I Feel That I Will Die Before The Age Of 30?

I’m 29. I’ve felt this way for a very long time. I don’t know why 30 is significant. No one I know had died at that age. I’ve been very depressed and feel the date weighing down on me.

  1. I was surprised when my mom told me that when she was a teenager she didn’t think she’d live to be 30. I kind of realized then that it’s pretty normal. She said she just couldn’t imagine herself being that old.
But that’s not what you’re talking about because your age 30 is soon. For me it wasn’t 30 or 40. It was actually 25, “one quarter century.” Egad. I guess it’s just what numbers push our buttons. I’m 47 now; doesn’t it sound like I’ll be having weird feelings when that “half century” comes along. Ah well, live and not learn. :)

  2. My mother said that when she was about ten, her mom would tell her that she wouldn’t live to see her next birthday. Of course for a kid this is troublesome because what kid wants to think of her mom dying? Anyhow, my grandma said this all the time to my mom, year after year and yet she thrived. I remember being little and my grandma saying this and I would worry. Well, the old girl is now 93 years old, and STILL worried about dying!
Point being, don’t fret over dying when you have absolutely nothing to base it on. If you do die suddenly what are you going to do about it? Worrying will not make it NOT happen, so enjoy life and have a more positive outlook. My grandma worried over everything all her life, so it’s amazing that she DID make it this long. I’m surprised she didn’t give herself a heart attack with all the worrying.
And when you do reach 30, will be worrying that you will be dead before 31? Then 32? You have to make this stop so you don’t end up like my granny.

  3. I have to ask do you really think “die” or is it just that you haven’t been able to see yourself as a 30+ woman. Sometimes its hard to picture where you’ll be or what you’ll be doing past a certain age. Maybe that is just showing itself as a thought of not being here after 30 at all. Try to really think about you want at 30, 35, 40 etc. Set short and longterm goals and see if that helps. Maybe with some thought about the future you’ll be able to see yourself in it.

  4. That is so crazy, because I’m 29 and I feel the same exact way! I actually had a dream when I was 15 years old that I would die when I’m 29. I have until February to turn 30. I’ve been so depressed that I have contemplated and attempted suicide a few times. My life has been so crappy, especially this year. Aside from my early childhood years, 2008 has been the absolute worse for me. I’ve been trying to “hang in there”, as they say, but it’s hard. I don’t know if I will make it to 30.
But maybe you will. Your probably just going through difficult times which are enabling you to see the future you have ahead of you.
