Top Places to See and Things to Do Before you Die

Bucket List Hub – Top Things To Do Before You Die

What Is The Best Way To Learn This Poem Off By Heart Before Tuesday?

Okay, so I got this poem yesterday and we need to say it in front of the whole class without reading it. This is the poem:
Dark in the wood the shadows stir:
What do you see?-
Mist and moonlight, star and cloud,
Hunchback shapes that creep and crowd
From tree to tree.
Dark in the wood a thin wind calls:
What do you hear?-
Frond and fern and clutching grass,
Snigger at you as you pass,
Whispering fear.
Dark in the wood a river flows:
What does it hide?-
Otter, water-rat, old tin can,
Bones of fish and bones of man
Drift in its tide.
Dark in the wood the owlets shriek:
What do they cry?-
Choose between the wood and the river;
Who comes here is lost forever,
And must die!
Okay, so with this poem we have to have a minimum of 2 things to enhance the recitation. And I think I want to turn all the lights out and have a touch shine on my face while i say this, but I need something else as well.
Thank you in advance.

  1. Tape record yourself saying the poem – play it over and over until you can say it word for word along with the tape.
Kind of like when you learn the words of a song – you hear it over and over and finally can sing along word for word.
It will work = try it – and I do like the idea of the torch lighting your face. Maybe you could re use that tape recorder and have the sound of running water playing low in the background.

  2. I can’t really help you with the enhancing part (sorry), but here are a couple good memorization techniques:
–Write it down in your own handwriting on yellow paper with red ink (I know it sounds weird, but I heard it from my drama teacher, so it has to work)
–Read it out loud, then try to recite it without looking. If you stumble or can’t remember, look at it and read the rest out loud.
    Hope this helps!

  3. Do it one line at a time.

  4. Write it on your hand.

  5. ok so my sis had a long poem to remember too but anyways here we go, you should record the poem clearly onto ur phone or mp3 . if u don’t have one that’s cool to but if u do: after recording your poem with UR voice you should pick up ur poem and keep it in ur hands. go into a sort of dream state (close ur eyes) while the recording is playing, make sure you can hear exactly what ur saying. after playing the recording at least 6 or 7 times you should be able to say most of it. Keep doing this until you remember. when you remember think about what ur saying what does it mean to you? anything? ok lets see… gather what you know from the poem and put it into ur own words, for example, the chicken came before the egg, therefore saying without the chicken there is no egg. These steps can also be done without a recording, just keep saying it!
