My cat, a DSH/Lilac Point Siamese cross died a couple months ago. He’s was 6 1/2 years old at the time. I’ve been in shock for a while, because he was a very healthy animal! Mainly an indoor cat, I sometimes allowed him to go outside and he’d never had any problems. In fact, he loved playing with my Pit Bull. They were best friends.
He’s never been sick a day in his life. All his shots were current, and he was microchipped. He slept in bed with me constantly and loved to lay on my chest and watch TV with me. The only thing really different about him is that he was a very large cat. Now, when I say very large, I do NOT mean overweight. He had some fat on him, sure, but every animal does. When I say large, I mean he was about 2 1/2 ft long from nose to tail and about 1 1/2 to 2 ft tall (see?? Told you he was huge!) from ground to the top of his head while standing alertly. I didnt notice any warning signs before his death, no laziness, no oversleeping, undereating or drinking, no lack of affection, nothing.
My fiance and I were sitting on the couch watching a movie before I had to go to work. The cat was laying on top of the couch cushions on the back of the couch, snoozing. (This was his fav spot to lounge. Its by a window.)
About halfway through the movie, he hops down behind the couch and starts to lick himself. Normal. Suddenly, he spazzes out, and tries to sprint across the room, does some sort of half backflip and collapses on his side, panting extremely hard.
Needless to say, I flew over the couch faster than a F-16.
He was shaking badly, wide-eyed, and the lining around his lips was blue (normally, theyre a purplish/pink color). I opened his mouth and stuck a finger down his throat to see if he was choking on something, but I couldnt feel anything. I then started feeling all down his body, putting pressure to see if anything hurt. I got to the middle of his back, put pressure on it and he screamed.
I got up while my fiance stayed with him, called in to work, called an emergency vet clinic, and got dressed in record time, but when I walked out of my room, ready to go, he was already gone.
I’ve been having a pretty hard time coping with this, and I think its because I dont know what happened. If anyone out there could give me your best guess (Vets, Vet techs, anyone with a story like mine) I would be most grateful.

What you did was right to rush him to the ER. I know it is hard to loose a beloved cat. You could have ask them to do a necropsy but that is expensive and results take time to come back from a lab if nothing is first found. Just remember he had a wonderful and loving life with you.
Lend Me A Kitten
I will lend to you for a while a kitten, God said.
For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he’s dead.
Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three.
But will you, ’till I call him back, take care of him for me?
He’ll bring his charms to gladden you and, should his stay be brief
you’ll always have his memories as solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught below I want this kitten to learn.
I’ve looked the whole world over in search of teachers true.
And from the folk that crowd’s life’s land I have chosen you.
Now will you give him all your love, nor think the labor vain?
Nor hate me when I come to take my kitten home again?
My heart replied, “My Lord, Thy Will Be Done”
For all the joys this kitten brings the risk of grief I’ll run.
We’ll shelter him with tenderness; we’ll love him while we may.
And for the happiness we’ve known, forever-grateful stay.
But should you call him back much sooner than we planned.
We’ll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand.
If, by our love we’ve managed your wishes to achieve.
Then in memory of him, who we loved, please help us while we grieve.
When our cherished kitten departs this world of strife,
Please send yet another needing soul for us to love all his life.

For When They Leave us…
And God asked the feline spirit
“Are you ready to come home?”
“Oh, yes, quite so”, replied the precious soul.
“And as a cat, you know I am most able to decide anything for myself.”
“Are you coming then?” asked God
“Soon”, replied the whiskered angel.
“But I must come slowly
My human friends are troubled
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.”
“But don’t they understand?” asked God -
“That you’ll never leave them?”
“That your souls are intertwined, for all eternity,
That nothing is created or destroyed,
It just is . . . forever and ever and ever?”
“Eventually they will understand” replied the cat
“For I will “Whisper” in her heart – that I am always with her.
I just am . . . forever and ever and ever!
R P CAT
A friend of mine had something similar happen her cat.
After an autopsy the vet discovered he had aneurysm on his spine which had burst.
So sorry for your loss. I’m not a vat, but sounds to me like he had some kind of seizure. Maybe heart attack? But only an autopsy could tell you cause of death.
To be honest It could of been anything. It could of been a heart attack. That sounds like what was happening. Could of been Saddle Thrombus also its a blood clot that forms in the left side of the heart and then suddenly it will rocket through the bloodstream and cause a blockage somwhere and as the name suggests it most offten occurs in the saddle area of the cat. Itscommon in all types and ages. Sorry to hear about your death. I just lost my kitty a few weeks ago too but for a different reason.
